1) Has the Bible been changed?
The Quran does NOT claim that anywhere! (6:115)- none can change his words
(50:29) Word of Allah changes not, (10:64) No change can there be in the words of Allah, (6:34) none can change the decrees of Allah. Other verses: (33:62) (48:23) (35:43) If Allah wrote the Bible then it couldn’t have been changed!
Quran About the Bible
(5:44) Allah is author of Torah, (5:46) Author of Gospels
Mohammad repeatedly quoted from the gospels and never attacked them:
(2:136), (21:105), (3:3) The Quran confirms the Bible, (46:12) (10:94)
Allah didn’t think the Bible was changed then. Or else how can the Quran confirm a book that has been changed?
(5:68) Obey and read the Bible (3:4) (5:66) follow the Bible and have provision.
(7:157) Muhammad used the Bible to confirm his own prophet hood.
Some think Deut. 18:15 refers to Muhammad, but it actually refers to Jesus.
John 5:46- Jesus says, “For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote about me.”
When, where, and how was the Bible changed? If the bible was changed it had to have been AFTER 632 A.D. through today. But there were 10,000’s bibles in Asia, Africa and Europe by that time. Can you imagine an all-continent meeting to insert errors into the Bible? Besides the fact that there were translations in many languages, they would have to:
1) Be in complete agreement on what verses they should change.
2) Deny what they truly believe.
3) Insert corruptions in order to cruelly convince people that Jesus is God when they actually believe He was merely a prophet.
5) They would have to lead their families to believe these lies and doom them to hell.
6) They would have to burn EVERY Bible that contradicted their new corrupt text.
The Quran refers to Allah as the “mighty one” 44x. If Allah is so mighty and great, he is perfectly able to protect his word. Right?
2 Tim 3:16- All scripture is given by inspiration of God
2 Peter 1:21- holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost
Matt 5:18-one jot or one tittle will not pass from the law, till all is fulfilled
Matt 24:35- Jesus said, “my words shall not pass away”
Luke 16:17- easier for heaven and earth to pass than one tittle of the law to fail
The Bible was canonized in 397 A.D. 200 years before Muhammad. There are 21 Bibles that pre-date Muhammad. Among them are Vaticanus and Sinaticus which are 4th century Bibles. Same as Bibles we have today. We have 24,000 ancient manuscripts. The Bible is a guide for Roman archeologists. They search the Bible and then go looking for it. They have found portions of Leviticus over 3500 years old unchanged! An Isaiah scroll has been found dating back to 100B.C. matching exactly the book of Isaiah we have today in our Bibles. In 1993, evidence for King David a stone found said “house of David.” The Bible is 66 books written over 1600 years by 40 authors and they all agree. Allah says his ways will never change (33:62). Jesus is the new covenant and will last forever (Heb 7:18-26). The Bible we have today has not been changed or corrupted. You can trust the Bible.
2) Did Jesus Die on the Cross?
You may say this could not happen to a prophet of God. Jesus is the highest prophet before Muhammad. The only sinless one born and raised from the dead, you can’t imagine such an ignoble death, so Allah must have caught him away to heaven.
You must understand that Jesus was in control. “Do you think that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? But then how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled…?” (Matt 26:53,54) In the Quran it even says Jesus dies and is raised to life (19:33)
The Bible about the Crucifixion
1 Cor 1:18- but unto us which are saved [the cross] is the power of God
Josephus, a secular historian, saw his death and many others too (dissertation 1)
The Cross was planned and prophesied many centuries before in Isaiah 7:14, and 9:6 saying Jesus is “the mighty God” and the “Everlasting Father” and in Psalm 22:16-18 predicts Jesus’ death on the cross.
1 Peter 1:10,11- prophets predicted the sufferings of Christ and glory
1 Cor 15:3,4- Christ died and raised to life on the third day
Isaiah 53:3-7- He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities
Jesus knew he was going to die. Matt 16:21-“From that time forth began Jesus to show his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things…and be killed, and be raised again the third day.”, Mark 10:45. Otherwise Jesus was a liar, but that can’t be true because he was sinless.
John 10:18- No man takes [my life] from me, I lay it down of myself. I have the power to lay it down, and I have the power to take it up again.
Matt 26:52- Jesus said he had 12 legions of angels at his disposal so he was not afraid to die
1 Cor 15:55-57- O death, where is your sting? O grave where is your victory? The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Mohammad is dead and buried in Medina, Saudi Arabia. The sign of Muhammad being a prophet was his knowing the Quran and not being able to read or write. Yet the sign of Jesus was his resurrection! (Revelation 1:18)
Acts 2:23- [Jesus], “being delivered by the determined counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain.”
1 Cor 15:6- [after resurrection] says more than 500 people saw Jesus at one time!
Quran talks about sinfulness of man (23:7)
The Bible has a higher standard, The Ten Commandments. Hatred is murder ( 1 John 3:15). Lust after women is adultery (Matt 5:28). Jesus’ rules were a matter of the heart not the outward acts. There will be a judgment day. (2 Cor 5:10, Rev 20)
Concept of Salvation in Quran
Faith AND works. How many works? And what is faith anyway? There is no assurance of salvation. It’s just what Allah wills at any given time (3:128,129). What are great sins anyway (53:32)? What about stealing, lying, and concubines? The Quran says Allah causes death (53:44), Jesus says it’s not his will that any should perish. (2 Peter 3:9)
(40:52) no excuse will avail the guilty
(11:114) good deeds can replace sins?
Allah forgives those who repent sometimes if they do it soon enough (4:17,18) But how soon is soon?
Muhammad took us back to the old covenant. But Jesus worked out our salvation for you.
1 Peter 5:5- grace to the humble, Isaiah 64:6-God hates works
Allah hates pride (31:18) James 4:6, God resists the proud but grace to humble
Cain substituted grain for blood. By faith Abel pleased God.
Jude 1:11- woe to those who taken the way of Cain. Cain: a sacrifice of works by his own hands, Abel: did what God wanted, blood is essence of mans life.
Allah created man from a clot of blood (96:2) But Leviticus 17:11 says the life of man is in his blood. Blood pays for sin.
Matt 26:28- “This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the forgiveness of sins.”
Heb 13:20- “the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus…through the blood of the everlasting covenant.”
What is the good news? If you have broken God’s law by lying, stealing, looking with lust, or having hatred in your heart, or taking God’s name in vain, or not honoring you parents, or fornication, drunkenness, etc. then you will be guilty on judgment Day and go to Hell. That’s not God’s will. Romans 5:8, 9- But God commends his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through [Christ]. You broke God’s law; Jesus paid your fine and punishment. Put your faith in what Christ has done and follow him.
How was Jesus Born?
The Quran says he was born of a virgin (3:47), and so does the Bible (Luke 1:34). Why was Jesus born of a virgin and not Muhammad? 1 John 4:19 says God first loved us so we love him. If we love him we’ll want to serve and obey him. You need God in your heart to reach the standard of God.
The Bible has a clear plan and instruction on how to be saved. The Quran? None. If you sin knowing God’s salvation you are trampling his blood underfoot. Please do not ignore the grace of God that is provided for you.
In Islam the unforgivable sin is saying Jesus is God. The Bible says the unforgivable sin is rejecting God’s gift and sacrifice of his son on the cross. Heb 2:3- how shall [you] escape if [you] neglect so great a salvation. God knowingly, willingly became a man, in Jesus Christ, and took your sin upon himself on the cross and then he rose from the dead.
3) How is Jesus the Son of God?
I want to start off by saying that the Holy Bible says there is only ONE God. Christians are monotheists. Christians are NOT polytheists. We believe in a triune God: ONE God in three persons, NOT three separate gods. I am NOT saying 1+1+1=1.
The Bible says (Deut. 6:4)-…The Lord our God is one… (Eph. 4:6)- One God, (Isaiah 43:10)- before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
Only one God- Matt 3:7, beloved Son, Luke 3:21- God’s Son)
In Matt 22:42- Jesus asked the Pharisees “what do you think of Christ? Whose son is he?” That is the question you need to ask yourself.
The Quran says- Jesus is no more than an apostle (4:171), Jesus denies he is the son (5:119), God does not have a sexual mate (6:101), mysteries belong to Allah (16:77)
When the Bible talks about the “Son,” it is imagery, it is figurative. Saddam Hussan when fighting the gulf war said , “we’re fighting the mother of all battles.” He didn’t really mean a literal mother. In Indonesia you cannot fight in the military unless you are a “son of the soil.” That just means you have to be born and raised in Indonesia to fight in the military. Jesus Christ came out of God to visit earth to convey a message.
The Bible says- 1 Tim 3:16- God was manifest in the flesh, seen by angels
The Quran (19:18) says an angel appeared as a man to Mary
You have to admit that God is All-powerful and can do anything he wants. Right? He can become a man if he wants to.
In the Greek, “Son of God” is “quios” found 380x. It refers to a figurative relationship.
The other Greek word for son is “Teknon” found 98x in the New Testament. This refers to sexual propagation.
In Luke 2:48 the Greek word “teknon” is used when Mary finds Jesus in the temple and says, “Son (teknon) why have you thus dealt with us?” “Patros mos” similar to “quios” is used when Jesus said he is about his Father’s (quios) business. So we see Jesus being called the “Son of God,” is a figurative relationship.
In Arabic there are also two words for “son.” “Ibnin” which refers to a unique relationship with father, carries out the will of Father. And “Walad” refers to a sexual relationship. In 1 Timothy 1:2, Paul said Timothy was his “son in the faith.” This is obviously figurative.
The Quran says (3:45) Jesus is called “Word.” Note in the Book of Revelation he is called the “Word of God” and 1x the “Son of God,” 2x the “Son of Man,” 27x the “Lamb of God.” Is God a sheep that he should be called a lamb? No, again it is figurative. Jesus is eternal. It is impossible for him to be the mere son of Mary. Jesus never claimed to be the son of Mary or Joseph.
Jesus is God
John 1:1, 14-In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.
John 8:58- Before Abraham was, I AM. Referring to Exodus 3:14.
Col 1:15,16, 17-Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature, for by him were all things created…by Him all things consist.
Matt 22:45- If David calls him Lord how then can he be his son?
John 10:30- I and Father are one
John 14:9-He that has seen me has seen the Father
John 12:45- he that sees me sees Him who sent me
Col 2:9-For in [Christ] dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily
John 10:33- The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone you not; but for blasphemy; and because that you, being a man, make yourself God.
1 Cor 2:8- crucified Lord of Glory
Isa 9:6- Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace
