The Christian in Complete Armour
Have you ever wondered what it means to put on the armor of God? How are we to use the pieces of armor to our advantage against sin and Satan? This is book that William Gurnall wrote in the 1660’s powerfully expounds Ephesians 6:10-18. The book is broken up into two volumes. The first volume Gurnall very clearly explains who our enemy is and what kind of power he has. You will not be frightened long by how powerful and deceptive Satan is because Gurnall then explains Satan’s weaknesses and the Christian’s strength in Christ the Conqueror. The second volume of the book continues to expound on what the individual pieces of armor are and how Christians are to use them. His section on how to use the sword of the Spirit is enlightening. He shows from scripture how the Christian can use the Word of God effectively against persecutors, heretics, lusts and afflictions. In the section on the weapon of “all prayer” he explains how to pray to God in a way that we can have confidence that he hears us and shows us how to properly gives thanks to God when blessings and mercies are received.
I read this book all the time. It is a resource that I keep going back to for encouragement. I highly recommend this book for the growing Christian. The unabridged version is two volumes in one book with over 1200 pages. The abridged version is broken up into three volumes in modern English. But if you want the full force of William Gurnall buy the unabridged version.
