George Bancroft, the Father of American History taught we must understand God in history. History affects public policy. The first history’s we have are 1630’s. From 1630 to 1900 we told history how it happened. In 1920’s more of a secular view was taught. In 1960’s more of an economic view was taught. 45% of evangelicals who voted recently said economics is more important than moral issues, national leaders are now judged by success of economy and not by character or leadership. After we achieved our independence many states abolished slavery. Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, and New York.
Every single charter for American colonization has been for the propagation of the Gospel. Not gold, or because economic poverty. Alexis de Tocqueville came to America in 1831 to see why America was exceptional out of any other nation. The chief political force is Christianity, crime rate in many towns are 0%, and the church is taking care of the poor.
America’s Christian Foundation
There were about 250 Founding Fathers and about 1 in 6 were Masons. Masons were a Christian organization in the 1700’s. A Founding Father is someone who had a substantial impact on the birth and establishment of America. 56 signers involved with the Declaration, 55 in the U.S. Constitution and 90 in Bill of rights. Others like Patrick Henry and John Jay played an important role. 95% were orthodox Christians.
Declaration of Independence: Taxation without representation was 17 out of 27 grievances listed. 1940-1960 we shifted politics to only about economics. Acknowledges God four times. The King would not allow missionary societies. He only allowed the Church of England. He vetoed anti-slavery laws (in Pennsylvania, 1774) and religious liberty laws. Eleven clauses are against abuse of representative powers. Military abuses. Judicial abuses, removed trial by jury, impressments of seamen, placed military power above civilian power. King George III would not allow missionary, Bible, or Sunday school societies. Sam Adams and Charles Carroll said religious freedom was the reason they joined the Revolution. Jefferson wrote in a slavery clause, that denounced slavery, in a rough draft of the Dec of Ind., but Georgia and SC objected so it was rewritten. Ben Franklin, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson edited it. Approved on July 4, 1776 and signed August 2, 1776.
