The civil government needs to heed the words of the Great Lawgiver (Isaiah 33:22), the Lord Jesus Christ, when he said,
"For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curses father or mother, let him die the death (Matthew 15:4)."  The is a case when the child has gone beyond the control of the family government and needs to be punished no longer by the rod (Proverbs 22:15), but by the sword (Romans 13:1-7).
A 17-year-old girl was charged Friday with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm and battery after deputies say she pulled a gun on her mother during an argument.

Rachel Anne Hachero was upset because her mother wouldn't co-sign on a vehicle purchase, according to a Lee County Sheriff's Office report.

It looks like the Mighty God has had mercy on the state of Maryland by not allowing their legislators to redefine marriage (Proverbs 21:1).  The God of the Bible created marriage (Genesis 2:18-25).  Only the God the of the Bible defines what He created.  The Triune God has defined marriage as one woman and one man in Biblical marriage for life (Matthew 19:5).  "To avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband (1 Cor. 7:2).  Let's continue to pray that King Jesus has mercy on His Church by raising up legislators, judges, governors, pastors and teachers who fear God more than man (Acts 5:29).

ANNAPOLIS, Maryland — The speaker of Maryland's House vowed that Democrats would try again next year to pass legislation legalizing homosexual marriage, but the intense lobbying by faith groups against the measure in recent weeks shows that it won't be easy, even in a state known for its liberal politics.

A loose coalition of Democratic legislators failed to cobble together enough votes to overcome opposition from Republicans and religious groups, including the Catholic church and many black congregations, to make Maryland the sixth U.S. state to legalize homosexual marriage.

Flyers posted recently in villages around Laos described Christians as dishonest and immoral traitors. The flyer’s writer accused Christians of being political tools who convert others for financial gain. He wrote, “Christianity … has the purpose to brainwash society. It has the purpose to get rid of other religions and other cultures opposing Christianity. Every teaching of Jesus Christ is related to what the Americans teach one another to follow.”

By refusing to defend the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), by calling it “legally indefensible,” by inventing a new constitutional doctrine (i.e., that sexual orientation is a protected class) never accepted by the Supreme Court, by rejecting controlling Supreme Court precedent in Baker v. Nelson on marriage, by nakedly politicizing the Justice Department, by nationalizing the marriage question and forcing major GOP leaders and presidential candidates to act, President Obama is not only helping build up a national marriage movement — he has actually made it far more likely the Supreme Court will ultimately vote to uphold DOMA.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia took a big step Thursday toward eliminating most of the state's 21 abortion clinics, approving a bill that would likely make rules so strict the medical centers would be forced to close, Democrats and abortion rights supporters said.

Gov. Bob McDonnell, a Republican and Catholic, supports the measure and when he signs it into law, Virginia will become the first state to require clinics that provide first-trimester abortions to meet the same standards as hospitals. The requirements could include anything from expensive structural changes like widening hallways to increased training and mandatory equipment the clinics currently don't have.

In a recent interview, the Pop-Star Justin Bieber talked about his ethics on marriage and sex.  When asked if abstinence should be practiced, he responded by saying, "I think you should just wait for the person you’re…in love with."  It seems Justin wasn't taught very well about what God says about the marriage bed in his public school.  Humanism teaches that what you feel in your heart is right.  The Bible teaches that whatever God says in his Word is right.  Abstinence needs to be encouraged in our sex crazed society.  Also it needs to be known even if you have had sex before marriage there is forgiveness only in the Blood of Christ.

Disney princesses, who doesn’t love them? Since Snow White’s debut in 1937, the ‘Disney Princess’ line has become a $4 billion franchise, who’s merchandise includes everything from miniature ballgowns to designer handbags…for a mere $2.49 one can even purchase their child a personalized phone call from the princess of their choice.1 They’ve become an icon worldwide, representing the dreams of every little girl, the love of which is passed from generation to generation.2 The latest figure in this royal lineup is Rapunzel, Disney’s first CG princess and the heroine of their 50th animated classic, Tangled.

Most of us are probably familiar with the old fairy tale by the brothers Grimm. While the original tale was a pretty poorly written story, Disney has rearranged it a bit, applied their expert craftsmanship and added a dose of modernity for good measure. The plot line is still similar- a beautiful girl is kidnapped by an old hag, locked away in a hidden tower, the hero finds and rescues her, and they all live happily ever after. This time, though, Rapunzel is a princess who’s hair possesses magical healing powers- an impetus for our old hag, Mother Gothel, to keep her locked away. And, instead of wandering around in misery and despair, Rapunzel and our hero, Flynn Rider, go on a grand adventure. Sounds pretty innocuous, right? Well, not exactly. The film is filled with beautiful imagery, delightful characters, great humor, and a story that never drags, but as I walked out of the theater last week, my thoughts were on a different vein. It was, in fact, the film’s perceived harmlessness that made it so disturbing. To be sure, there are a number of things to pick on- from thugs delivering sermons on the basic goodness of man, to magic droplets from the sun god, valley girl vernacular, and much more, but the most troubling parts of the film were the overarching themes.

As this new-fashioned fairy tale unfolds, we’re treated to an interesting commentary on homemakers and why these captives to domesticity are setting themselves up for eventual disenchantment. In spite of the fact that Rapunzel has been locked away from the world and dominated by a sugary sweet despot, we find her a delightful, adorable girl, with a zest for learning and a creative flair. Eventually, though, she wearies of the monotony. Though it’s a mockery and misrepresentation of homemaking, it holds an interesting element of truth. When life is divorced from a larger dominion purpose, the eventual result will be frustration and misery.3 Rapunzel was disheartened because even her more useful skills had no point beyond filling her time and whiling away the hours.4 The real problem here is that, within the world of the film, we’re only given two options, two choices in life- both of which are unsuitable, but one of which is deemed acceptable by it’s creators. The first, obviously, is for Rapunzel to stay in the tower trapped forever in a life of childish meaninglessness. The second is presented shortly as Rapunzel, in turmoil over her choice to run away, is advised by Flynn,

“Does your mother deserve it? No. Would this break her heart and crush her soul? Of course, but you just got to do it…..This is part of growing up—a little rebellion and a little adventure. This is healthy.”

This is the first major sermon statement of the story, and from here things spring into action as we’re shown, for the remainder of the film, that chronic rebellion is innocent, healthy fun, and disobedience in pursuit of our heart’s wildest desires actually leads to enlightenment and maturity.5 Biblically speaking, maturity isn’t defined by the childish assertion of our autonomous wills, but rather by a life lived in terms of God’s Word.6 What Tangled doesn’t tell little boys and girls, is that there is a third option of dealing with the situation in Biblical maturity and wisdom, or that the Bible paints an entirely different picture of the home and it’s purposes. Instead, Tangled only teaches that behind door number two lies all the adventure we’ve been waiting for. Of course, we could overlook this because, after all, Mother Gothel is really just a wicked captor bent on using Rapunzel for her own ends. But, the fact is that Rapunzel’s actions are carried out in the understanding that this is her mother and it’s really not until the last few minutes of the film that she finds out otherwise. Theirs is the relationship which is modeled throughout the film as mother/daughter. Parents are sinners, just like their children, but one person’s sin doesn’t excuse the sin of another.7If we’re prepared to say that Mother Gothel’s sins are inexcusable, we must be prepared to say the same of Rapunzel’s.

Let's remember this CHRIST-mas that JESUS is reason for the season.  When the angel came to Mary he said, "his name shall be called JESUS, for he shall save his people from their sins."  "For unto to us a child is born, for unto us a son is given, he shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.  Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end..."  Let's remember as we look upon those little manger scenes that that is because "I have sinned against God.  I have broken the commandments of God."  God the Son himself chose to come down born of virgin, sinless, fully-man and fully-God, in Bethlehem to live a life of total obedience to God's Law.  Because we haven't.  He came to be put to death and be crushed under God's wrath to pay the debt that we cannot pay.  That is why we need a Savior.  Thankfully, we can celebrate "this day in the city of David a Savior is born, CHRIST the LORD."  Amen!  We don't have to die and go to hell because that little baby was born in Bethlehem.  We can now live to the glory of God in obedience to his law because that little baby was born in Bethlehem.  Now we are set free from the law of sin and death in order that the righteousness of the Law might be fulfilled in us.  I end this blog entry with the words of the angels sent to the shepherds: Glory to God in the Highest, and peace on earth, good will to men!"

I recently saw a bumper sticker that said, "hatred is not a family value."  Along with this sticker was a bunch of other stickers promoting ungodly and perverted relationships.  Usually statements like these are meant to neutralize Christians into apathy so the wicked can continue in their wicknessness with no accountability.  But let's Apply the Bible to this statement and see what happens.  Hatred in itself is not a bad thing.  It is the object that you direct your hatred toward that can make hatred good or bad.  Let's take a look at what God says in the scriptures about hate.

  • Ye that love the LORD, HATE evil (Psalm 97:10).
  • Through your precepts I get understanding: therefore I HATE every false way (Psalm 119:104)
  • I esteem all your precepts concerning all things to be right; and I HATE every false way (Psalm 119:128).
  • I HATE and ABHOR lying: but your law do I love (Psalm 119:163).
  • The fear of the LORD is to HATE evil: pride, arrogance, the evil way, and a perverted mouth do I Hate (Proverbs 8:13).
  • These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren (Proverbs 6:16-19).

So we see that God hates evil and commands his people to hate evil.  Now the question is, "what is evil?"  Who are the evildoers?  God has instituted civil government to punish evildoers that break God's laws that have sanctions.  But we as individuals (self-government) are to love our personal enemies.  God always speaks of nations and civil affairs in terms of justice.

Evil is defined by the Law of God found in the Holy Bible.  Breaking God's commands are evil such as worshipping false gods, blasphemy, dishonoring parents, murder, sexual sin such as adultery, sodomy, bestiality, etc., lying, stealing, coveting what God doesn't want you to have, etc.  So we need to understand that as Christians we are to hate what our Creator hates and love what our Creator loves.  And since his law is an expression of his character and nature we must also love and obey his law.

This shows that we as Christians must know our source of law is the Bible alone.  "The LORD is our judge, the LORD is our King, the LORD is our LAWGIVER...(Isaiah 33:22)."  "We must obey God rather than man (Acts 5:29)."  Yes we are to obey the governing authorities but only if they obey their authority.  God!  If the civil government comes to us and tells us to disobey the Bible.  We must never obey.  This article shows what can happen when Christians withdraw themselves from politics and leave the pagans to come in with all the power to persecute Christians.  Wake up Christians and obey Christ.  Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will be done on EARTH as it is in heaven.  That also means his will be done in the civil sphere according to his law written in the Bible.
